KUALA LUMPUR: South Korean singer and actor Kangin was reported to have assaulted his girlfriend at a pub at 4.30am today.
According to Korean news portals, the South Korean police had received a telephone call saying that the member of the K-Pop group Super Junior was intoxicated when he started hitting the victim.
The police representative told news outlets, “The case was however resolved as the victim did not wish for legal punishment. Kangin has been released from police with a warning.”
It was also learned that the police was unclear whether or not the victim was in fact the 32-year-old’s girlfriend.
The star’s management company SM Entertainment, when contacted, released a statement saying, “We are currently trying to figure out the situation.”
This isn’t the first time Kangin, whose real name is Kim Young-woon, has had a run-in with the law.
In September 2009, he was arrested for being involved in a fight between two men at a bar in Gangnam. It was later discovered that Kangin had only reacted to the acts of violence in self-defense.
In May last year, he was caught driving under the influence (DUI) after hitting a streetlight. In October 2009, he was in another drunk-driving case when he drove into a stationary taxi.
In both DUI cases, he had fled the scene but later turned himself in to the police.
Kangin has been lying low ever since and chose to skip out on Super Junior’s activities in promoting its new single Black Suit, released earlier this month.
