KUALA LUMPUR: Although voting comes once every five years in, there were some like celebrity couple Hanis Zalikha and Hairul Azreen who did not exercise their right at the recent 14th general election.
Hanis, 28, admitted their error and said that they were unfortunately tied up with work commitments during polling day.
She added that it was the only day that they could do it on, since Hairul was also tied up with another shoot for the film Paskal outside of KL right after the election.
“There should be no excuse at all. But it’s just that we didn’t have any other date to accommodate the commitments we had already agreed upon much earlier. It was hard to change the shooting schedule and we didn’t want to inconvenience anyone.
“If everything had gone well, this would have been a second time at casting a vote for both of us. Unfortunately, fate was not on our side.
“We promise to vote in the next election. It’s a responsibility for all Malaysians that are eligible to go out and vote. That is why to this day we feel sad about it. It is our own mistake,” she said when met at a Raya-related Jakel event here today.
Prior to this, Netizens had been speculating that the couple had not gone to vote on May 9 after there was no sharing of their voting experience online unlike some other celebrities and the like.
On a different note, Hairul, 30, who had acted as a firefighter in the film Qhaliq, plays a member of the Royal Malaysian Navy’s elite special forces team in Paskal.
Directed by Adrian Tan, the action film, which was shot in Lumut, Semporna and Morocco, also features Ammar Alfian, Henley Hii, Taufiq Hanafi and Gambit Saifullah.
