KUALA LUMPUR: Fans of Special Unit Forces assault leader Jay Zulkarnain will be excited to hear that the character is coming back to the big screen in J Retribusi, the sequel of J Revolusi.
Jay, the protagonist of last year’s action-packed police drama, will be reprised by hunky actor Zul Ariffin, when it opens in cinemas at the end of next year.
Co-produced by Primeworks Studios and Infinitus Production, filming of J Retribusi will commence in November.
Infinitus’ executive producer Gayatri Su-Lin Pillai told the NST that when J Revolusi was created, it was done with a trilogy in mind.
“While working on the debut film, we had also created the concept for its subsequent sequels, J Retribusi and J Resolusi. It was necessary since we needed to have a clear direction from the get-go on how the whole trilogy will culminate in the finale.
“The first draft of the script for J Retribusi will be ready next month. As for J Resolusi, the script will only be prepared after we wrap up filming of the second film,” she said.
Azad Jasmin (who played Skodeng in J Revolusi) will return for the sequel.
Gayatri added that the production was looking to introduce a bigger cast this time around.
“Potentially, we hope to be able to feature an international cast to play one of the main supporting roles.
“We are also considering having a different director to helm the sequel,” she said.
J Revolusi was directed by Zulkarnain Azhar. Costing some RM3 million to make, it collected RM7.2 million at the box office.
