KUALA LUMPUR: Wings frontman Datuk Awie says that despite not having spoken to former bandmember Joe in a while, he bears no ill feelings towards him.
Since leaving the rock band last year, Joe or Abdul Zamin Abdul Kadir, 48, has yet to make amends with his ex-group members including Awie.
“Until he seeks forgiveness from us, let him just be in his own world. As for me, I’m a forgiving person and always pray for the best for everyone,” said the 49-year-old Awie or Ahmad Azhar Othman to reporters recently.
“At this age, I realised that there’s no point of hating anyone. Who knows, further ahead, I might be in trouble and he would be the person who’d come and help me, and vice versa.
“I have no problem if he wants to be friends and start talking to us again. But, it is impossible for us to work together again,” said Awie, not mincing his words.
The rift began when Joe wanted to focus on his other rock band Prime Domestic, the one he co-founded with former Search guitarist Hillary Ang seven years ago.
As such, he could not give his full commitment to Wings and was said to have been the reason why its 30th anniversary concert scheduled on Dec 24, 2016 at Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu was postponed to April last year.
By February last year, it was confirmed that Joe had left Wings.
Awie admitted that without Joe, Wings was still performing as usual with the help of session musicians such as Edrie Hashim and Sham.
“Both are committed. It’s easy working with them since they put priority when it concerns performances with Wings,” said Awie who added that the band was currently recording a new single.
Asked on rumours that Edrie would soon be joining Wings as a new permanent member, Awie said that it had not been decided yet.
“For the time being, Wings is comfortable working with both of them.”
