#Showbiz: Bront Palarae injures leg filming The Bridge

KUALA LUMPUR: Getting bruised while on set is normal for Bront Palarae but a bad leg injury yesterday has led to the award-winning actor having to depend on crutches for a week.

Bront, 40, tore the calf muscle of his right leg while running in a chase scene for his coming Viu and Media Prima Television Networks original series The Bridge.

"This happened in Johor Baru, when my character, detective Megat was supposed to run from a ship to the rooftop of a building. It was terribly painful, and the crew got me admitted to KPJ Medical Centre," he said.

Bront was interviewed at the press preview of his latest film One Two Jaga at the TGV Cineplex in One Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya today.

"The doctor has put me on physiotherapy and I have to rest for two weeks. This will delay The Bridge a little, we've got two weeks of shooting left," said Bront who plays a police officer in One Two Jaga.

Bront also said that he could only resume with the action scenes after resting for six weeks and that the crew of The Bridge have already decided to film those scenes after he has fully recovered.

"It's the worst injury I've suffered throughout my career but it hasn't deterred me from completing The Bridge. And I'm fortunate that I can still stand up for a few minutes."

The Bridge has 10 episodes and will be screened on Viu and ntv7 in November. It is based on the global phenomenon created by Hans Rosenfeldt.

It tells the story of Malaysian detective Megat (Bront) and Singaporean detective Serena (Rebecca Lim) who team up to investigate the mysterious death of a man whose body is found on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link.

One Two Jaga, which opens on Sept 6, was filmed in 2016 and tells the story of courageous police officers who expose the corrupt practices of their superiors.

It is directed by Shahili Abdan or Namron, produced by Pixel Play Entertainment and Jazzy Pictures and stars Zahiril Adzim, Amerul Affendi, Chew Kin Wah, Bront, Namron and Indonesian actors Ario Bayu and Asmara Abigail.

Known internationally as Crossroads, it was screened at the 20th Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy on April 20.

On June 29, it was nominated for Best Feature Film at the 17th Asian Film Festival in New York (NYAFF).
