KUALA LUMPUR: New Muslim convert Michael Ang has popular host, actress and entrepreneur Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor to thank for encouraging him to thrive in his newfound faith.
In a YouTube video titled Chit Chat With Michael Ang produced by the Official Ria X channel last Monday, the 43-year-old director said that MeleTop co-host Neelofa, 30, encouraged him to embrace Islam in Rome, Italy last year.
“Actually, I had already converted to Islam when we had that conversation. Nevertheless, we had good chat and she prayed that God will help me all the way in my journey," said the producer-director who uploaded the video on his Instagram account yesterday.
In his caption to the Instagram post, Ang said: “Salam everyone. Do you know Neelofa tried to convert me in Rome? Find out more from our casual conversation in Chit Chat With Michael Ang on YouTube’s Official Ria X channel.”
Netizens continued to congratulate Ang and pray that he would be strong in his faith.
Some of them even called Ang a "chosen one" because his conversion came after having a dream of the Kaabah in Mecca.
They also praised Neelofa for being a good friend who helped Ang in his journey of self-discovery.
Shain said: “Some of us may think Neelofa is just style and no substance. In truth, she's a kind-hearted soul and excels in dakwah.”
Agnes said: “You’re looking more radiant now, Michael. I’m happy for you, may God guide you in your journey.”
Syafiq said: “It’s great to have a friend who is kind-hearted like Neelofa. You’re so lucky and blessed, Michael.”
Last week, Ang revealed that a dream he had two years ago led to his conversion.
He said that in the dream, he was led by someone into a room which had a golden pot spouting fragrant water.
There were also some Arabic writings on the walls of the room.
He added that since then, he slowly started asking his friends about Islam.
Ang said he was grateful that his decision to convert to Islam had been received well by his family members, who surprised him by celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri together last year.
