#Showbiz: David Teo's 'Cikgu Ku Suraya' gets slammed?

KUALA LUMPUR: Having posted a photo of his new talent in a tight kebaya ensemble on Instagram with the caption “Selamat Pagi Cikgu Suraya #comingsoon”, film producer David Teo has been receiving a torrent of backlash from Netizens recently.

It is believed that the photo of new actress, Sabah-born Chumiee Omey, was taken during the filming of an upcoming production titled Cikgu Ku Suraya.

Many Netizens commented that such portrayal of the teacher character named Suraya in tight-fitting clothes would only further tarnish the image of government teachers who have strict dresscode to adhere to while in schools.

One commented: “Please do some homework on how teachers (at government schools) are dressed. Don’t just style your actress as you please!”

“No teachers are allowed to dress like this (in school). We are not asking to be idolised, but don’t degrade the teaching profession,” wrote another.

While it could not be confirmed the story behind this fictitious Cikgu Suraya character, many lambasted Teo for coming up with this drama. Some have even assumed that Cikgu Suraya is inspired from the character in the infamous erotic novel circa 1990’s.

“I don’t think there’s a need to film such a story. What good does it bring?” commented another Netizen.

Many said that enough of manipulating women and sexy images to sell films.
