#Showbiz: Angelababy-Huang Xiaoming tops up Wuhan donation after criticism

KUALA LUMPUR: After the current lockdown on Wuhan following the escalating coronavirus outbreak, many celebrities from around the world have donated money and goods to help the people in the capital of Central China’s Hubei province.

Chinese power couple Huang Xiaoming and Angelababy also made a charitable gesture with a financial donation for the purchase of masks for medical personnel in Wuhan.

According to a recent Sin Chew Daily report, Netizens were not impressed by the good deed from the two famous singers and actors.

Many took to social media to express their dissatisfaction at the sum of the contribution from Huang, 42, and his 30-year-old wife, whose real name is Angela Yeung Wing, after their act of kindness was disclosed on Weibo last week by the Siyuan Poverty Alleviation Fund.

Apparently, the couple had given 200,000 yuan (about RM170,780), which many criticised as being too little a sum.

One irate Netizen wrote: "They could spend 200 million yuan (around RM117.8 million) for their wedding. Yet, when the country is facing a crisis, they donated only 200,000 yuan."

Following the backlash, the same fund announced last Sunday that the two celebs, who got married in 2015 and have a son together, had given an additional 800,000 yuan (roughly RM471,141) to make it a cool total of one million yuan.
