KUALA LUMPUR: Actor Hun Haqeem has been ordered by the courts to pay a compensation of RM613,950 to the production house Metrowealth International Group (MIG) for breaching his contract three years ago.
In a news report yesterday, MIG managing director David Teo said that the Shah Alam High Court had announced this decision on Nov 27 last year.
"After the appeal was filed, the court ordered him to pay the amount, provided that we submit proof of the loss incurred after the breach of contract. He was also ordered to pay us back RM30,240 — the payment we made to him earlier on."
The 26-year-old artiste, whose real name is Haqeem Hermy, breached a five-year contract in 2021, when it still had a two-year period he needed to complete.
Teo also said that Hun was the first artiste under MIG who was brought to the courts for not honouring his contract and hoped that this would serve as an example to other artistes in future.
"If you can't be sure, don't make any promises. But when you signed on the dotted line, you can't simply dismiss the commitment made. That's the responsibility of anyone with integrity."
