KUALA LUMPUR: Rock legend Datuk Suhaimi Abdul Rahman or Amy of Search claims that Indonesian singer Denden Gonjalez who used to be the lead singer of "team Kid and Din" was misled by the veteran rock siblings.
Amy, 66, said in an interview with Berita Harian yesterday that Denden recently told him that Kid and Din said "many negative things" about him.
"Denden told me that he did not know I was no longer in their band when he arrived in Malaysia from Indonesia in 2021.
"When he was with Kid and Din's team, he often asked them where I was. They claimed that I had issues to deal with, and could not perform with them. Eventually they had to admit that I was no longer in the band."
Amy alleged that Kid and Din told Denden that he could not sing any more, and as a result Denden was "trapped" into becoming their lead singer.
"Denden was under the impression that he would be second lead singer to me," said Amy.
Denden spoke to Amy in a recent video conference to announce that he had parted ways with Kid and Din.
"Denden told me that he was my big fan. He uploaded a photo of both of us on his Instagram account," said Amy.
Amy also said that Denden gave him the "green light" to speak to the press about his problems with Kid and Din.
There have been two rival Search lineups since 2021, the first comprising Amy, guitarists Hillary Ang and Man Kidal and bassist Nasir, and the second comprising Din and Kid.
Amy recently expressed regret that Din and Kid failed to pay royalties to his team as well as the family of Search's late drummer Yazit who died in 2019.
He said that Din and Kid were supposed to pay royalties to Hillary, Man, Nasir, Yazit's family and himself from the sales of their album Rockology Search: Kid'Din Collection.
Din criticised Amy's accusations as baseless, and promised to address them at a press conference soon.
