#Showbiz: Ning Baizura faces backlash over 'who is Rafah?' comment during Instagram live

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Ning Baizura has landed herself in hot water after remarking that she "doesn't know who (what) Rafah is" on social media.

During a live session on Instagram, Ning read a comment saying "All eyes on Rafah", in reference to the plight of Palestinians there.

She then responded by asking "Who is Rafah?"

However, after realising her mistake, she quickly changed the topic.

The 48-year-old singer has since received severe backlash from users on X (formerly Twitter) before the video recording of her live session went viral on other social media platforms.

The clip has now been shared over 5,000 times.

Ning's comment section on her Instagram posts has now been set to 'limited', after being flooded with criticism.

Meanwhile, Berita Harian reporters have reached out to Ning for a response.

Criticism against Ning comes after several local artistes were boycotted and 'cancelled' as part of a global movement called 'Blackout 2024'.

The movement comes in response to celebrities' views (or lack thereof) on Palestine.

Its boycott campaign aims to pressure public figures to utilise their significant platforms to advocate for ceasefire calls amid the ongoing attacks against Palestine by Israel.
