#SHOWBIZ: Indonesian singers Anang, Asyanty booed 'off stage' by football fans at Gelora Bung Karno

KUALA LUMPUR: Appropriate song selection for an event is crucial, especially when one is going to perform live, as Indonesian singers Anang Hermansyah and Asyanty discovered last night.

Since yesterday evening, the TikTok platform had been inundated with videos of the celebrity couple being booed by Indonesian football fans at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

According to a Harian Metro report today, the incident took place at the stadium located in Central Jakarta, after the national football team had defeated the Philippines.

It happened when the pair sang the song 'Rindu Ini' (from his album 'Jodohku' released in 2011, which was to mark his marriage to Asyanty).

The audience apparently thought that the performance was not celebratory enough for the occasion.

Instead, they wanted uplifting patriotic songs such as 'Bagimu Negeri' and 'Tanah Airku.'

Earlier, the duo sang the patriotic song titled 'Kebyar Kebyar', a number originally performed by veteran singer Gombloh.

The 'protest' saw the singers stopping their performance and walking out of the stadium.

Despite being chased by the paparazzi, both Anang and Asyanty remained calm and tight-lipped when probed by the media for their comment on the incident.

Meanwhile, after the singers left the stadium, the venue was filled with the voices of both the Indonesian footballers and the audience singing 'Tanah Airku.'
