KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian comedian Harith Iskander said his personal shortcomings are the primary cause for his divorce with Dr Jezamine Lim.
"I screwed up and over the years I made a lot of mistakes," said Harith, 58, during an interview with Daphne Iking which was aired on The Rakyat Post.
In the interview, he spoke about the challenges he faced in his marriage.
He said his actions were a major factor in the breakdown of their relationship.
"I'm a guy, I'm an idiot. I have acted in ways I should not have.
"I'm not going to point out what I did or did not do," he said.
He said he did not want to come up with excuses, and he said he had done irrational things that many men would do.
He also said the divorce was not an overnight decision and the couple had seen it coming, despite attending marriage counseling and speaking to their friends.
Meanwhile, Dr Jezamine, 41, said their focus now remains on the well-being of their children as they try to navigate the transition as smoothly as they can.
She said despite being divorced, the couple will continue to care for their children and adjust to fit their childrens' schedule.
She also said she would continue to be Harith's manager despite the changes in their relationship.
"I will still manage Harith because I'm very passionate about what he does," she added.
In earlier reports, Dr Jezamine confirmed that she filed for a divorce at the Federal Territories Syariah Lower Court.
"That's right, I already filed for divorce. I don't remember the exact date the application was made, but it was about a month ago," she had said, declining to comment on the reason for the filing.
