KUALA LUMPUR: Popular comedian Shuib of Sepahtu fame has apologised for sharing his experience of how he was once addicted to gambling.
In a Harian Metro report today, the 39-year-old artiste, whose real name is Shahmira Muhammad, said that he didn't mean to open a can of worms when he shared the story on Dol's Podcast recently.
"I admit that it was not proper for me to air my dirty laundry publicly, especially when God had previously saved me from any embarrassment during that episode of my life in the past as it had never been revealed by anyone else before.
"It was an oversight on my part and I hope that it will serve as a reminder for myself to be more careful in the future," he said.
While he didn't blame netizens for criticising his "revelation", he also hoped that people would watch the podcast session, which he co-hosted with fellow celebrities Shuk Sahar and Fizie in full, so that everyone would understand why he shared his dark past in the first place.
"It was meant to serve as an example for our audience, but somehow, what had gone viral was just an excerpt from the entire podcast session.
"Some news portal picked up the story and ran it with a questionable headline," he added.
During the podcast, Shuib also shared how he decided to quit gambling following a harrowing incident of being surrounded by a group of gangsters after he had won a bet with a cash prize of RM68,000.
