RENOWNED singer and composer Ajai, 49, recently weighed in on the criticism of Fazura's singing performance in Indonesia.
The performance had drawn significant attention and backlash from netizens.
Speaking to Harian Metro, Ajai suggested that if a singer is aware of his or her weaknesses, they should take proactive steps to improve, such as taking vocal lessons.
"A singer needs to understand their vocal strengths and weaknesses," Ajai explained.
"It's essential to know what works and what doesn't. I noticed some notes were off in a viral video of Fazura's performance, but that can be fixed with the right training."
Ajai emphasised that Fazura, who is surrounded by industry professionals, has the advantage of resources that can help her develop her vocal abilities.
"She needs the right producer who understands her strengths," he said.
"Singing is not just about hitting high notes. It's about producing a sound that is easy to listen to, something that feels effortless."
According to Ajai, a strong vocal performance requires not only technical skill but also the right appeal.
He pointed out that some singers may have excellent voices but lack star quality, while others may not be technically perfect but have a magnetic presence.
"In the music industry, such appeal often outweighs technical ability," he noted.
"Record companies tend to invest in artistes who have both talent and charisma."
Ajai encouraged Fazura, who already enjoys a large fan base, to continue working on her vocal skills.
"Singers with a strong following should seize the opportunity to enhance their vocals and produce a sound that resonates with their audience."
Fazura's recent performance of her song 'Bertahan Demi Cinta' on an Indonesian talk show sparked heated discussions online, with some fans praising her while others criticised her singing.
