KUALA LUMPUR: Comedian Ebby Yus did not anticipate that a video call with Lan Zailan on Wednesday evening would be his final interaction with his long-time friend.
Ebby shared that actors Ako Mustapha and Sheila Mambo had visited him after seeing Lan at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM).
"Lan asked Ako and Sheila to contact me. While at my house, they made a video call to Lan," Ebby told BH Online.
"Lan appeared okay, but he didn't speak—just used hand signals. I didn't notice any significant changes in him," he added.
Ebby revealed that he had wanted to visit Lan since his hospitalisation in November but was unable to due to his own health issues.
"I feel heartbroken receiving the news of Lan's passing. During our call, I prayed for him.
"I told him not to dwell on worldly matters and to focus on recovery.
"I never thought it would be our last conversation," Ebby said, lamenting that he couldn't meet Lan in person one final time.
Ebby, who first met Lan during their theatre days in the 1980s, described him as kind and full of joy.
Lan passed away yesterday morning and his remains were laid to rest at USJ 22 Islamic Cemetery in Petaling Jaya.
