KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for five men including a Universiti Malaya lecturer for their suspected militant-linked activities.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, in a statement received earlier today, said that three of them were involved in recruiting Malaysians to join the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) group in Syria, while two others are members of Darul Islam Sabah group who had joined Abu Sayyaf Group in Southern Philippines.
He said all of the suspects aged between 30 and 39, who were also allegedly involved in military training activities for the groups, are believed to be hiding in Southern Philippines at the moment.
The suspects are:
1) Dr Mahmud Ahmad (age 36) - Lecturer at Islamic Studies faculty, Universiti Malaya
2) Mohd Najib Husen (age 36) - Businessman who operated a stationary shop at Universiti Malaya
3) Muhammad Joraimee Awang Raimee (age 39) - employee of Selayang Municipal Council
4) Mohd Amin Baco (age 31) - unemployed
5) Jeknal Adil (age 30) - Labourer
