JOHOR BARU: Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife Ho Ching today conveyed their sadness on the passing of Tunku Laksamana Johor Tunku Abdul Jalil Sultan Ibrahim on his (Lee's) Facebook account.
"Tunku Jalil was loved for his compassion, his charitable work and his passion for the environment and animals," Lee wrote.
Lee added that Jalil told him how he had enjoyed his voluntary stint at the Singapore Zoo as well as his walks in the republic's Singapore Botanic Gardens.
However, Lee said he was unable to attend the wake because of a People's Action Party (PAP) Convention.
"Our deepest condolences to Tunku Jalil's family. Our thoughts are with them, and the people of Johor during this time of grief," he added.
Lee would be represented at today's funeral by Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, Teo Chee Hean, and Minister for Home Affairs and Law K. Shanmugam.
