NIBONG TEBAL: Flash floods hit low-lying areas at two villages here following torrential rain late yesterday.
Some 21 residents were displaced by rising waters that swept through Kampung Sethu and Kampung Changkat in Simpat Ampat here.
The situation worsened at about 10.30pm and the residents sought help from the Fire and Rescue Department in the vicinity.
No one was injured in the incident.
A boat and two vehicles were deployed to the affected sites to evacuate the displaced residents, with the rescue operations wrapped up early today about 1am.
A fireman spokesman said the people were given temporary shelter by the state welfare department.
Among the residents evacuated were 11 children and a senior citizen, while eight others were brought to safety by their respective family members.
The flood waters receded hours later after the rescue operations were completed.
Displaced residents spent a night at the evacuation centre.
