JOHOR BARU: A state-of-the art 14-storey building with ample parking space will become the new headquarters for the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) by 2019.
The new Menara MBJB, to be built in the heart of the city at Bukit Senyum, will see work commissioned from early next year.
This was revealed in a memorandum of understanding signed today between Johor Baru Mayor A. Rahim Nin and Astaka Padu Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Zamani Kassim at MBJB.
Witnessing the ceremony were Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Latif Bandi and Astaka Padu executive chairman Datuk Daing A. Malek Daing A. Rahaman.
Latif said the state government is pleased with news of the development of Menara MBJB.
"The new MBJB headquarters will make the council operations run smoother and efficient for more years to come," he said.
Rahim said the purchase cost of the new building has yet to be finalised and still being negotiated between the two parties.
"However the new tower will have 558 parking spaces and will also have specialised counters for the public to sort out their council affairs," he said.
The existing MBJB headquarters began operating in 1963.
