Petrol station owner fined RM72,000 for not filing GST forms

KUALA LUMPUR: A petrol station owner was today fined RM72,000 by the Sessions Court on nine charges of failing to submit the Goods and Services Tax (GST) return forms for her business last year.

Nur Izzati Beatrice Haekal Ngauh, 42, pleaded guilty to committing the offence of failing to submit the GST-03 tax return form for the months of April till December, 2015 at Lot 17774, Jalan 2, Taman Desa Jaya Kepong, near here, on June 2, last year.

She was fined RM8,000 in default of three months jail, for each of the nine charges.

Nur Izzati, who was unrepresented, in mitigation told the court that her two senior citizen employees are currently in hospital and she has to look after her business as well as her child.

She said that in looking after her employees' welfare, she had overlooked her business responsibilities.

Prosecuting officer Jamilah Abdul Rauf, from the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, in seeking a deterrent sentence, said Nur Izzati should have known the severity of the situation in not submitting the GST returns forms.
