JOHOR BARU: All has been quiet at Dataran Bandaraya here since 8am today, despite talks in previous days of a public gathering this morning to urge police to act against the woman driver involved in last Saturday's accident which killed eight teenage cyclists and seriously wounded eight others.
In fact, no one appears to have showed up for the proposed gathering, which was first announced on social media.
An MPV police unit and a police truck were seen patrolling the area, but both vehicles left the site at 9.15am, leaving only a traffic police on standby.
The Dataran was empty except for a handful of media members and some children playing soccer, supervised by an adult coach, as of 9.25am.
In the Feb 18 accident, eight teenagers, who were riding modified bicycles in a group of between 30 and 40 youth, were killed when a car ploughed into the group at the Inner Ring Road near the Mahmoodiah Muslim Cemetery here at about 3am.
