KOTA KINABALU: A female pedestrian was killed when she was hit by a motorcycle, then run over by a car, which dragged her for about 50 metres along Jalan Sulaman here last night.
In the 8.45pm incident, the victim, identified as Karimah Musa Kantu, 31, from Kampung Lepasan, died of severe head and bodily injuries.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said the victim was crossing the road when she was knocked down by the motorcycle and a Perodua Viva car.
“Both the motorcyclist and driver were heading to the state capital from Tuaran.
“Based on preliminary investigation, it is learnt that the motorcyclist overtook the car, (then) knocked the victim as she was crossing the road.
“She fell onto the road and into the path of the oncoming Perodua Viva car. The victim was dragged underneath the car for some 50 meters,” Chandra said.
The victim died at the scene and her body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem.
The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries, while the car driver was unhurt.
Chandra said police detained the driver and motorcyclist to facilitate investigation under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
