KUALA LUMPUR: A retired military officer has been arrested for selling ganja-based products from his house in Kampung Delek Dalam in Klang, Selangor.
The 58-year old man, whose moniker is ‘Dr Ganja’, claims that his products can cure various illnesses, including cancer.
Federal Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) deputy director DCP Datuk Kang Chez Chiang said police picked up the man, as well as his 35-year-old Indonesian wife and 38-year-old accomplice at the house on Friday.
"The man had garnered a following on social media by promoting the benefits of ganja and hemp seeds. Those who trusted him went to his house to buy his ganja-based products," Kang told media members at a press conference at Bukit Aman today.
He added that the man claims that his intention was to help people, and that he even gave away products for free to those who couldn't afford them.
Police seized the products, including 70 chocolate bars, 66 bottles of honey, 21 bottles of margarine, nine bottles of milk and two pieces of cake. They were all mixed with ganja, and valued at RM16,000.
Police also seized 18 ganja plants, 4kg of powders believed to be ganja, and 72kg of ganja seeds.
It is learned that he has been active in producing and selling the ganja products for the past five months.
The trio has been remanded until June 2 to facilitate investigations.
The case is probed under Section 39B and Section 6B of the Dangerous Drug Acts 1952.
