Indian tourist falls to death from Kota Kinabalu hotel

KOTA KINABALU: An Indian tourist fell to his death from 12th floor of a hotel building at Karamunsing, here.

In the incident which occurred in the wee hours of Monday morning, the body of Hitesh Oswal, 25, from Jaipur, was found sprawled on the fifth floor of the hotel.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said police were alerted of the incident at 2.45am and despatched an investigation team to the hotel.

“It is believed that the victim was in his room and had jumped from the window. We have inspected the body and the room, and found no signs of foul play.

“It is also learnt that the victim had been feeling depressed due to personal problems with his family in India,” he said.

Chandra said the victim travelled to the state capital three days ago along with his adopted family and had stayed at Sky Hotel.

He said police has classified the case as sudden death, adding the Indian Embassy has been informed.

The body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 for a post-mortem examination.
