GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today said there will be no investigation into the allegations made by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad against the deputy prime minister.
Its chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad said this was because the allegations made against Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was just a "story".
"It is just a story by one person.
"We can't take action against stories.
"If there is an official report, then we will have a look at it... We will study the report and open an investigation if there is basis to the report," he told reporters here today.
Dzulkifli was asked to comment if MACC was planning to open an investigation on Dr Mahathir's claim that Zahid had RM230 million in his bank account in 1996.
It was reported that the former prime minister had claimed that he found out about the money when Zahid, then the Umno Youth chief, was declaring his assets.
Meanwhile, Dzulkifli hinted that there could be more arrest over MACC’s probe into the purchase of hotels in London and Kuching by Felda Investment Corporation (FIC).
When asked if there would be more arrest, Dzulkifli said "wait and see".
He echoed the same response when asked if MACC believed that it had arrested all the key players in the two cases.
Last Friday, Dzulkifli ordered an investigation into the 2014 purchase of the hotel in Kuching that was believed to have been bought at a price way above the market value.
So far, seven individuals have been detained to assist in the investigation.
Among those arrested includes, company directors and a former special officer to Felda’s former chairman, suspected of having been involved in this high-profile cases.
The MACC probe into the purchase of the Kuching hotel followed information received by the investigation team during its probe into the purchase of the hotel in London.
Yesterday, Dzulkifli said MACC was confident of wrapping up its investigation soon, after an aggressive probe, which also involved the examination of seized documents and the recording of statements from witnesses.
He had said that the investigation had taken some time as it involved overseas transactions.
