KAJANG: After killing a woman in a hotel room here yesterday, a suspect tried to evade police detection by hiding on a signboard.
However, his efforts were futile and he was arrested at 2.30am.
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yusoff said a man had alerted police at 10.55pm when he found the body of a woman lying face-up in a hotel room.
“Upon receiving the information, a team from the district police criminal investigation department inspected the scene and found a woman’s body lying in a pool of blood.
“Initial investigations found stab wounds in the victim’s stomach, chest and right hand. We also discovered a kitchen knife, believed to be the weapon used by the suspect,” he said in a statement today.
Dzaffir said police did not find any documents on the victim. She had been staying at the hotel since Tuesday.
“Following a blood stain discovered during inspection, police found the foreign man who was hidden on a signboard located 70m from the hotel room window.
“With the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Department, we managed to bring down the suspect. With the arrest, we have solved the case in less than four hours,” he said.
He said the suspect was remanded for seven days to facilitate in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
He said police would check with the Immigration Department on the status of the suspect, who is believed to be a Myanmar national.
