SHAH ALAM: Special Taskforce for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (STAGG) operatives raided five illegal online gaming centres here and in Klang today, arresting 15 people and seizing dozens of computers.
Sources said the premises had been operating between three days and two months and were equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
The CCTV cameras were used to monitor the areas surrounding the premises, with one particular camera pointed at the doors, which would only be opened via remote control when “customers” arrived.
The sources said the premises were each believed to have raked in between RM7,000 and RM15,000 a week.
In today’s operation, dubbed Op Dadu JOL (Judi Online, or Online Gaming), 36 STAGG members broke up into teams to conduct simultaneous raids on all five premises at 3pm.
They arrested 11 workers and four “customers”, in their 20s and 30s, at the five illegal centres.
STAGG principal assistant director Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nazri Hussin said his team was able to carry out the raids thanks to information received from the public.
“The simultaneous raids were carried out at premises in Bandar Bukit Tinggi 1, Pandamaran, Port Klang, Taman Klang Jaya and Taman Sri Muda. Among the 11 workers were arrested were two Indonesian women.
“We seized 52 laptop computers, two computers, nine modems, four simulators and RM859 cash,” he said.
Nazri said those arrested in Klang were taken to the Klang Selatan police headquarters while those arrested here were taken to the Shah Alam police headquarters.
