Ulu Klang man tries to avoid arrest, throws son

KUALA LUMPUR: A man threw his son away, in a desperate attempt to avoid arrest during a police dragnet near Kampung Fajar, Ulu Klang last Sunday.

He was with his wife, son and several other people at the field there when a police team approached them at 10.15pm.

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Hamzah Alias said the man tried to flee the area but could not do so when his machine fell and he ended up being surrounded by police.

“In a moment of panic, the man throw his son away to distract the police but he was eventually apprehended."

Hamzah said however, his wife and their 'friends' at the field managed to escape,” he told a press conference at the Taman Melawati police station today.

Hamzah said the boy, who sustained injuries and bruises on his back, was taken to the Ampang Hospital for treatment.

He said initial investigations revealed that the man, who tested positive for drugs, was believed to have used a stolen motorcycle and has a record for drug-related offence.

“We are closing in on the suspect's wife, aged 27, to facilitate investigations,” said Hamzah.

Meanwhile, he said police have detained a 21-year-old man in Kampung Kemensah, Ulu Klang at 4.30am yesterday and seized a stolen Honda EX5 motorcycle.

Both the suspects have been remanded for three days since yesterday to facilitate investigation under Section 397A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft, Hamzah said. — BERNAMA
