KLANG: Police have arrested a man believed to be involved in two snatch theft cases, including one that occurred at Jalan Kangar 87, Batu 2 1/4, where a clip of the incident went viral on social media.
South Klang police chief Assistant Commissioner Cha Hoong Fong confirmed that the police had received a report from a 30-year-old woman regarding the viral snatch theft case.
According to the report, Cha said the victim and her mother were walking to a parking lot at Jalan Batu Nilam 4, Bandar Bukit Tinggi 1 at around 8.20pm on Nov 16 when they were approached by two men on a motorcycle.
"One of the suspects brandished a knife and pointed at the victim before a struggle ensued," he said in a statement.
He said the suspect slashed the right hand of the victim as well as her mothers finger before grabbing her handbag and fleeing the scene.
"Both the victim and her mother received treatment at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital.
"The victim received five stitches while her mother received 10 stitches," he said adding that the victim suffered RM500 in losses due to the incident.
He said they opened an investigation under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing hurt during a robbery.
"Based on intelligence gathered, we arrested a 25-year-old suspect following a raid at a house in Taman Sentosa Perdana.
"Our records show the suspect has eight prior drug and crime records," he said adding that the suspect has been remanded for six days.
Cha said investigations revealed the suspect was also involved in the snatch theft case that went viral in North Klang recently.
