TELUK INTAN: A security guard was slashed in the head by a robber armed with an axe at Menara Condong here early today.
Hilir Perak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri said in the 2am incident, the security guard, in his 60s, was taking a break when he was attacked.
"The robber had swung his axe at the victim, who managed to dodge it. In the ensuing struggle, the robber slashed the security guard in the head.
"The victim was then dragged to a toilet where he was bound and locked-up," Ahmad said in a statement today.
He added that the robber then broke into a telecommunications shop in the complex and took all the mobile phones.
"The shop owner suffered RM300,000 in losses. the forensics team was dispatched to the scene.
"We have retrieved some items that can help in our investigations. We are intensifying efforts to locate the suspect."
He said the security guard was reported to be in a stable condition and received outpatient treatment at Teluk Intan Hospital.
