KUALA LUMPUR: A 26-year-old glamping site operator who allegedly assaulted an elderly neighbour in Tanjung Kling has been detained by the police.
Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit when contacted said the suspect was detained at his home at midnight on Monday.
"Police have opened an investigation paper under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. The case is still under police investigations.
"Based on the preliminary investigation, the incident occurred at 1.20pm on Sunday, when the 76-year-old victim confronted the suspect over some open burning near her house, before she was attacked," he said.
Christopher said things got heated during the confrontation and resulted in the man slapping and punching the victim.
He added that the victim fell as a result of the attack and was also threatened by the suspect.
Earlier, a video clip which was believed to be of the incident went viral on social media, with many netizens calling for action against the assailant.
The footage showed a man charging at an elderly woman, raining punches and slaps on her.
Taken by surprise, the woman was heard crying for help while trying to protect herself, but to no avail.
