Salesman nabbed over drugs worth RM400,000

GEORGE TOWN: Police detained a handphone accessory shop salesman believed to be involved in drug activities, and seized drugs worth about RM400,000 in the northeast district here last Friday.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid today said police had detained the 24-year-old man here about 7pm and seized 1.22gm of ketamine from him, along with four keys and an access card.

"Guided by the man, police raided a house in Paya Terubong.

"Checks led to the recovery of 121packets, each containing methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), weighing 2,383gm and worth RM397,960.

"Police also seized 10.94gm of ketamine worth RM2,188 and two Eramin 5 pills worth RM40.

"The drugs were seized at the rented house used by the man to store them. The total seizure is RM400,428."

Razlam said the drugs were obtained from other syndicates before they were repackaged into smaller packets and sold to customers in the northeast district.

The man, who operated alone, had been active since early April and had raked in tens of thousands of profit every month, he said.

"The MDMA drugs, which have been processed, were sold between RM100 and RM200 per packet.

"Buyers mix it in their drinks."

Following the man's arrest, police also seized a Honda City worth RM75,000, he added.

The man's urine test came back positive for drugs, said police.

He also had a drug record.

He has been remanded for a week to assist in investigations.
