Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid said police are still investigating the motive of the incident.
"Yes, we managed to obtain a seven-day remand order against the suspect from the court here.
"The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
"We are still establishing the motive of the incident but the suspect is suffering from mental problems," he told the New Straits Times when contacted.
Yesterday, a senior citizen was found dead, allegedly stabbed by her son, who is said to be suffering from mental problems, at an apartment in Relau here.
The man, who is also the youngest child, called his brother at about 5pm to inform him about the incident.
The brother then contacted the police.
Police rushed to the scene and nabbed the 40-year-old man at the unit.
