Babysitter arrested for allegedly abusing toddler

SEPANG: A babysitter has been arrested for allegedly abusing a toddler in her care.

Sepang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said they received a report about the incident at around 4.30pm on Friday.

"The complainant claimed that her two-year-old boy was abused at a nursery along Jalan Putra Perdana here.

"The victim received treatment at a clinic at Putra Perdana which confirmed the toddler suffered swelling on his right thigh believed to be from being pinched," he said in a statement on Saturday.

He said police subsequently arrested a 25-year-old local woman who worked at the nursery.

"We have opened investigations under Section 31(1) (a) of the Child Act for exposing a child to danger so as to causing physical or emotional hurt.

"We urge the public to refrain from speculating on the incident or circulating any false information on the case," he said.

He said the investigation papers were being completed before they are referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office for further instruction.
