Motorist beaten by group after causing multi-vehicle crash

KERIAN: A 52-year-old man was assaulted by several motorists after he rear-ended a vehicle, triggering a chain reaction involving five other cars on KM110 of Jalan Ipoh-Butterworth early today.

District police chief Superintendent Juna Yusoff said that police were alerted to the incident at 12.15am, which involved a total of seven vehicles near a bank in Bagan Serai.

"Initial investigations revealed that the accident occurred when five cars, one jeep, and one motorcycle travelling from Parit Buntar to Bagan Serai stopped in the right and middle lanes due to a red traffic light.

"The man's vehicle collided with the rear of a Proton Wira, causing it to hit the vehicles in front.

"Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and all vehicle owners have filed police reports regarding the incident," he said.

Later, police discovered a viral video showing the man being attacked by a group of individuals following the accident.

The District Crime Investigation Department is investigating this assault.

"The victim, who was called in to provide a statement, opted not to file a report about the beating, as he did not sustain any injuries," Juna said.

He said that those with information related to the accident should come forward by contacting the Kerian Traffic Investigation Officer at 05-721 0539.

"People should adhere to the law. Road users should drive safely and comply with all traffic regulations," he added.
