Police arrest two men for threatening neighbours with parang

SUNGAI PETANI: Two men were arrested for criminal intimidation after threatening to harm their neighbours with a parang at Taman Meriah here yesterday.

The men, aged 43 and 35, had become abusive when asked by two neighbours to move their cars which were blocking traffic.

They threatened the neighbours before brandishing a weapon and throwing a shoe at one of them.

Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said one of the victims, a 63-year-old man, lodged a report after escaping the scene.

"The complainant and a neighbour had asked the suspects to move their vehicles, which were blocking a garbage truck.

"Suddenly, the suspects caused a commotion, and one of them brandished a parang towards the victims while threatening them. One of the suspects also threw a shoe, hitting the complainant.

"Fearing for their safety, the complainant and his neighbour fled the scene and requested police action," he said in a statement today.

Wan Azharuddin said both suspects, who tested positive for drugs, were arrested shortly after.

"The complainant and his neighbour had lived in the area for 30 years, the suspects had only been there for three months.

"The 43-year-old suspect has three drug records, while the 35-year-old has one record, along with two criminal convictions," he added.
