Police probe viral video of people in uniform-like attire

KUALA LUMPUR:  Police are investigating a TikTok video showing several individuals attending an event dressed in formal attire resembling the ceremonial clothing of uniformed forces.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the police had detected a video at 2.30pm yesterday through the account @haris2.03.

"This viral video can also cause confusion among the public, leading them to believe that such actions are an offence.

"As a result, it can lead to actions that violate the laws stipulated under the country's legislation," Hussein said in a statement today.

Hussein said the investigation paper has been opened under section 140 of the Penal Code, section 50(3) of the Societies Act 1966, and section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Under Section 140 of the Penal Code, if found guilty, the offender faces imprisonment for up to three months, a fine of up to RM,000, or both.

For offences under section 50(3) of the Societies Act 1966, the offender faces imprisonment for a period not exceeding three months or a fine not exceeding RM3,000.

For offences under section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, the penalty is a fine not exceeding RM5,000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both, and an additional fine of RM1,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction.
