KUBANG PASU: The army has detained 13 undocumented migrants who had crossed into Malaysia from Thailand near the border at Bukit Kayu Hitam here yesterday.
In a statement, the 2nd Infantry Division headquarters said that around 2pm, a surveillance team spotted five individuals crossing a river towards a main road near the border.
"The team pursued and detained all five migrants. However, one of them sustained minor injuries after falling while attempting to flee.
"The team later apprehended another eight undocumented migrants hiding nearby, bringing the total number of detainees to 13," the statement said.
Checks found that the 13 individuals comprised 12 Myanmar nationals and one Thai national, none of whom possessed valid passports or travel documents.
The seized items included cash and 14 mobile phones, with the total value of the seized items estimated at RM16,259.49.
All detainees have been handed over to the police for further action.
