PETALING JAYA: The controversial "Nothing2Hide" forum – meant as a platform for debate between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad – has been scheduled for one month for now.
This time, the forum – which was cancelled by police in 2015 – will be organised by PPBM’s youth wing.
Its chief, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, said he will ensure that Tun Mahathir will be in attendance to answer all questions by the public and the media.
"We will be holding a forum as a platform for Tun Mahathir and (Prime Minister) Datuk Seri Najib Razak. Everyone can ask as many questions as they like.
"We will be sending a letter to the Prime Minister's Office soon and will wait for the reply within two weeks," he said at a press conference at the PPBM headquarters here today.
He added that the forum will proceed even if the Prime Minister declines to attend.
In 2015, the first Nothing2Hide forum, which was expected to be a face-off between Najib and his chief critic, Tun Mahathir, was cancelled unexpectedly by the police over security concerns.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar explained that the event was called off to preserve “public order”. The Prime Minister’s Office later attributed Najib’s absence at the forum to police advice and security concerns.
Organiser SukaGuam said the police ordered the event cancelled due to the group’s inability to handle the large number of attendees, while the IGP denied that the cancellation was politically-motivated.
