Man sought over Batu Pahat accident which killed elderly couple

BATU PAHAT: Johor police are on the lookout for a man believed to be involved in an accident which killed an elderly couple at KM5 Jalan Bukit Pasir early yesterday morning.

Muhammad Daniel Silverajah Abdullah, 29, from Taman Wiramas, Tongkang Pechah, is believed to have been behind the wheel of a Perodua Viva when it crashed into the couple, who were on a motorcycle.

Muhammad Daniel is believed to have fled soon after arriving at the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital, leaving behind the female passenger of the car, who was believed to be under the influence of drugs.

Batu Pahat police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Wahib Musa said the suspect is still believed to be in the district and is urged to surrender himself at the nearest police station.

"We are on the lookout for the suspect. Anyone who knows of his whereabouts are urged to come forward," said Wahib.

In the 7.15 am accident, Wahadi Jamos, 62, and Rokiah Jangi, 65, died on the spot when their motorcycle collided with a Perodua Viva which had entered into their path from the opposite lane.

Witnesses claimed that prior to the accident, the Perodua Viva was seen moving erratically on the road.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.
