ALOR STAR: The Kedah Health Department introduced the state's first special birthing centre to cater for low risk pregnancy cases.
Its director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said the centre located near Kota Star Health Clinic at Lebuhraya Darulaman begins it operation today.
He said the centre known as Low Risk Birthing Centre (LRBC) was managed by experienced medical officers, assisted by nurses who were also well trained in birthing process.
“The idea for the centre was mooted to reduce the number of delivery cases referred to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Jalan Langgar,” he said in a statement.
According to Dr Norhizan, expectant mothers sent to the centre will go through stringent assessment by doctors to determine their case status.
He said for every pregnancy, the expectant mother will be tagged based on their case risk and only those who received a white tag on their pregnancy report book would be sent to the centre.
Norhizan said the RM865,000 centre was equipped sufficiently to handle normal delivery procedure.
“Expectant mothers registered at the centre will be given some time to help them get accustomed with LRBC environment,” he added.
