KUALA LUMPUR: A fire broke out at MidValley Megamall this evening, involving a convenience store at the lower ground floor at around 7pm.
There were no reports of casualties and mall goers were temporarily evacuated.
City Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the fire was brought under control at 7.33pm.
He said the cause of fire still under investigation.
Checks at the mall showed that shops near the scene were still closed and the authorities had cordoned off the area. However, shoppers have since been allowed to access lower ground floor.
Siti Aslina Basaruddin, 25, a telecommunication company staff said the smoke was so thick when the fire happened.
"I immediately kept all the phones and ran for safety," she said when met.
A witness, who only wants to be known as Chris, said she was watching movie with a friend when the cinema crew ran into the hall to evacuate cinema-goers.
"The staircase was smoky when we were evacuating. I was glad that everyone was calm and followed instructions as we made our way out.
"This is the most 'special' birthday I've had so far, but I prefer a normal birthday," she said, while applauding the fast action of the mall and cinema staff.
