KUALA LUMPUR: A snatch thief received instant retribution when his motorcycle was rammed by a lorry, shortly after he had robbed a woman and her daughter in Jalan Jernai, Setapak on Friday.
In the 3.30pm incident, the thief had snatched a bag which had been placed in a motorcycle basket, ridden by an 18-year-old woman and her mother, 57.
Wangsa Maju district deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Muhamad Najib Hamzah said the mother and daughter had just finished shopping at Setapak Sentral.
“As they reached Sekolah Agama Taman Danau Kota, the suspect, on a motorcycle, made off with a handbag which was placed in the basket of the victims’ motorcycle,” he said.
The enraged women gave chase and tailed him to a junction along Jalan Gombak-Jalan Jernai. They then rammed the thief’s motorcycle and all three people fell off their bikes.
“The suspect managed to scramble to his feet and got on his motorcycle to escape. But before he could do flee, a lorry came along and slammed into him,” he told the NSTP.
As a result, the suspect sustained a fractured skull and a broken left arm.
“The suspect is receiving treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL). The women, meanwhile, had bruises on their knees, elbows and wrists,” he said.
Checks later showed that the suspect had a criminal record, with 10 previous offences including drugs.
