KUALA LUMPUR: Condition of Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, the fireman who was severely injured in the Sri Maha Mariamman temple fracas in USJ25, Subang Jaya last month, has deteriorated.
National Heart Institute (IJN) in a statement today said Adib in the last 24-hours showed progressive deterioration of his lung function.
“After thorough assessments, the lungs showed signs of consolidation and hardening of his lung tissue, thus making gas exchange ineffective.
“This is as the result of his severe initial lung injury. At the same time, his renal function also has not improved where he continues to require dialysis support,” the statement said.
In view of this, IJN decided to reinsert the Veno-Vevous ECMO (Veno-Venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) system again at 9pm yesterday to assist in his respiratory requirements after a multi-discipline team discussion.
“This is a setback on his medical conditions. As such, Muhammad Adib is critically ill.
“In view of Muhammad Adib’s condition, visitations are limited. We urge all Malaysians to continue praying for his recovery.”
Last Tuesday, IJN said Adib had no longer requires the VV-ECMO machine to aid his breathing.
Adib has been on the machine since being admitted for treatment at IJN.
Earlier this month, doctors had taken him off the heart-support machine when his heart was able to function on its own.
