JOHOR BARU: Singapore will abolish the toll charge for motorcyclists at the Second Link at the Tuas Checkpoint on Jan 21.
The move matches Malaysia’s, which ended toll payment for motorcyclists at the Tanjung Kupang end of the Second Link at midnight yesterday.
A spokesman for Singapore’s Ministry of Transport said that the measure is in line with the republic’s long-standing policy of matching Malaysia’s toll rates.
“We note Malaysia’s removal of motorcycle toll charges at the Second Link. Singapore will match the removal of motorcycle tolls at the Second Link from Jan, 21 2019,” the spokesman said in a statement.
Malaysia’s decision to abolish toll charges for motorcyclists at the Second Link, along with those at the Penang Bridge and the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, was announced in the 2019 Budget.
Previously, motorcyclists paid RM1.10 at the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza and S$0.40 (about RM1.20) at the Tuas Checkpoint.
