GEORGE TOWN: Police have so far recorded the statements of eight people to facilitate investigations into the two-car collision on the Penang Bridge.
Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said they included the victim's friends and those who witnessed the incident.
"Besides the eight individuals, police today will record the statements of several other people including the man who recorded the incident on his dashcam," he said at the Batu Uban Marine Department jetty here today.
He said police will complete their investigation paper on the crash as soon as possible before submitting it to the deputy public prosecutor.
"Police will also record the statement of the driver of the Toyota Vios after he receives treatment at the private hospital in Bayan Baru," he added.
Nik Ros Azhan said the victim's friends claimed that only one person was inside the Mazda CX-5 when it plunged off the Penang Bridge on the wee hours of Sunday.
"We also believe that the victim's body is still inside the vehicle," he said.
Yesterday, divers had made three attempts to hook the vehicle’s wheels before they succeeded on the fourth.
However, the one-and-a-half hour effort to retrieve the vehicle using a crane was unsuccessful and was subsequently suspended.
The SUV plunged into the sea after being rammed into by a Toyota Vios at 2.54am on Sunday. The Mazda CX-5 was driven by 20-year-old student Moey Yun Peng.
