SHAH ALAM: The baby saltwater crocodile which was spotted at the Shah Alam Lake in Section 14 last Friday, was captured at 11.30am today.
Selangor Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Abd Rahim Othman said the crocodile, measuring one metre, had slipped into a trap set up by the department five days ago.
"After continuous monitoring since Feb 22 and with the installation of three traps and a net, the reptile was finally captured. We used a dead chicken as bait.
"The baby crocodile, its gender still not known, will be sent to the Paya Indah Wetlands (PIW) centre for further checks," he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) thanked the relevant agencies including Perhilitan for their efforts in capturing the baby crocodile.
Last Friday, the baby crocodile was sighted in the lake area, believed to have been released by irresponsible individuals. The lake was not connected and had no direct channels to any major rivers in the state. -- BERNAMA
