KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly posting Facebook remarks deemed offensive to the Hindus.
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun, in a statement today, said the suspect, who uses the name Zamri Bin Abd Razak on the social media platform, was picked up yesterday.
He is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing disharmony, disunity or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will on grounds of religion.
He said the man is also being probed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.
Fuzi said police will seek a remand order against the man today.
He also advised the public against misusing the social media or other communication channels that touched on religion and racial sensitivities.
Last week, police said they have filed charges against four social media account owners, for insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammad, with one of them having been sentenced to imprisonment.
Fuzi had said that the charges against the four were made under Section 298A and Section 505(c) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
