KUALA LUMPUR: The sinkhole in Jalan Maharajalela that swallowed a car yesterday (Sunday) night was caused by a burst pipe.
Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s corporate planning department director Khairul Azmir Ahmad revealed this in a statement today.
He said remedial works on the pipe and resurfacing of the road had been done by Syarikat Bekalan Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) contractors.
“It was restored by noon today,” he said, adding that the car was lifted out by the authority and other agencies.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya said initial investigations found that the incident occurred at 11.35pm and involved an area of about 3sq m.
“In the incident, a Perodua Myvi driven by a 42-year-old woman fell into the sinkhole. However, the driver, a private company employee, was not injured,” he said in a statement.
He added that further investigations were ongoing in accordance with Rules 10 LN166/59.
